Another thing about the two versions of The Man Blog:
Some of you may still be seeing the phantom version of The Man Blog. If you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, please read this post.
First of all, I’d like to stress why it’s important it is to get out of this alternate universe: We don’t get to update this version of TMB. So you may think that we’ve totally abandoned writing, while in reality, we’re all on the other side and you’re missing out on A LOT!
If you still haven’t changed your DNS settings to OpenDNS as detailed in the post linked above, I suggest you do so. Some people are afraid of playing around with their DNS settings because they’re afraid of doing permanent damage to your computers.
As long as you write your original DNS settings on a piece of paper and follow the instructions exactly, you won’t have a problem.
Some people are also afraid of not being able to access their favorite sites once the new DNS settings are in place. Again this is not the case. The OpenDNS settings not only allow you to access your favorite sites like the old DNS settings can, but it actually makes your surfing faster. I’m not kidding.
Now, on to the real reason for my post:
Those of you who are already on OpenDNS may still find themselves in this alternate universe from time to time. Based on my observations, this can be repaired by yet another simple solution:
DON’T FORGET THE WWW
I found that if I typed the TMB url without the WWW (http://man-blog.com/), I am transported into this alternate universe, but if I do include the WWW (http://www.man-blog.com/), I get back to the real version of the TMB.
And/or you can also try flushing the DNS cache in your computer by doing this (c/o TackTeck & thanks to Ade):
So that’s just some of the ways of repairing your access to TMB. Please remember that we’re just as stumped as you guys as to why this is happening. It’s all guess work as far as we’re concerned. If you have other observations you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
